The Saint Louis Park band has always strived to be successful. This year the band sent 14 students to the all conference band concert in Chanhassen.

Junior Conrad Phelan was one of the students who attended the concert along with his classmates. Phelan said it was nice to be so well represented by Park students in the concert.

“It was cool to represent park at an event with so many talented musicians,” Phelan said.

In the all conference band meet, participants gather in concert formation and are taught songs. They then perform the songs at the end of the day. The high schools band director ranks them on their skill which is used to decide what part of the music you will play.

According to Phelan, the concert challenged him with its musical complexity and having to work with new people that you may not have meet before.

“It was really cool and fulfilling to play the challenging music, and to learn to play it well as a group” Phelan said.

Phelan said the most important thing he learned during the concert was learning to play as a unit with an unfamiliar group.

“Although it started off pretty good but not perfect, everyone figured out how to play together and make it sound very good” Phelan said.

The all conference concert is a way to experience first hand what it takes to work together.

“ I think its a good experience for people because it shows you how hard people work, and how music brings people together very easily” Phelan said.
