As the second month of school approaches, science teacher and club advisor Alan Wachutka’s engineering club, ACE, will soon be up and running.

ACE stands for architecture, construction and engineering. From early October to mid spring, students will be able to put their corresponding architectural, construction and engineering skills to use.

Wachutka said the club is centered around building and designing a predetermined project.

“We are given a concept of a building we’ll need to design. We’ll need to do exterior and interior design, while taking things like energy consumption into consideration. Then we will present it for competition,” Wachutka said.

Wachutka said the ACE club is accepting anyone between 10th and 12th grade interested in joining.

“We’ll use any abilities. If you can draw, we will take you. If you can do math, we will take you. Any talents are accepted,” Wachutka said. “We meet right after school one day per week.”

Senior Madison Vignes said her favorite part about ACE is what she learns and the people she works with.

“I enjoy how much I get to learn about the different fields and the meeting different people,” Vignes said. “Essentially, we are group of students who work with professionals to build projects for competition. You get to meet a lot of fun people.”

As for why students should join, Senior Mikey Segal said ACE  teaches useful skills aside from architecture, construction and engineering.

“I think ACE is really beneficial because it’ll teach you skills that will help you outside of college,” Segal said. “Once you get out those skills could help you with your career not particularly with architecture and engineering but just in general. It gives you life skills that will help you wherever you go not particularly in any field.”
