DECA cancelled the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance Friday afternoon because of a low number of ticket sales.

According to DECA advisor Sophia Ross, 18 tickets were sold for the four days they were on sale.

The dance serves as a main fundraiser for the club, according to Ross, and because of the lack of sales, the dance could not serve its main purpose.

“I think it was a good business decision for DECA because we knew we wouldn’t produce a profit,” Ross said.

Freshmen Emma Meents said she believes the low ticket sales were because of the hasty planning of the event.

“I wasn’t that sad that Sadie’s got cancelled because it was so last minute,” Meents said. “If it was planned better, I think a lot more people would have gone.”

Ross said the many conflicts with the date caused DECA to postpone the release of the date, creating a late notice for the student body.

“All and all I think it was just bad timing,” Ross said. “I think we had a great theme and we did a good job of marketing and promoting, but unfortunately it was just a bad week.”
