When sophomore cast member Emma Kempf thinks about theater’s upcoming show, “The Anatomy of Gray,” she feels eager to have the opportunity to see the shows of the other schools.

“I am looking forward to seeing the other one acts from the other schools and kind of just seeing the theater that is not just in Saint Louis Park, but in the Minneapolis area,” Kempf said.

Director Jodi Hatzenbeller described the program as a competition between metro schools’ theater productions.

“It’s basically twelve schools that come together to compete, but because there are so many, we split (the competition) into two different days,” Hatzenbeller said.

Hatzenbeller said this year’s production will vary in length from previous shows.

“This year we’re doing one show that technically is not a one act — it’s a full length play that we’re are doing for our home performance this weekend,” Hatzenbeller said. “Two weeks from now, we are doing a shorter version of that for the one act competition.”

According to Hatzenbeller, the production is strong in its physical storytelling.

“They are really excelling at visually telling the story. There is a lot of really good physical acting that’s going on,” Hatzenbeller said. “I think where they could still excel is readjusting and getting comfortable with the lines.”

Junior Jacob Henry said he anticipates “The Anatomy of Gray” will be successful.

“I think it’s going to go really well. The set came together really well. It’s really cool. I’m surprised it came together as well as it did, but it came together,” Henry said.

Henry said he suggests the cast tries fulfilling the roles of their characters to a greater extent for an even better performance.

“I think some of them could go deeper into their character. There is a lot of emotion in this play, so it’ll be cool if they went a little deeper,” Henry said. “But I think they’re really successful and excelling at their lines and stuff like that.”

According to Hatzenbeller, the show takes place at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 and 14 and at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at the high school auditorium.
