Junior Doreen Moranga said she feels proud to be elected Student Council secretary after serving only one year on the Council.

“I was proud of myself for making it,” Morgana said. “It’s a big deal, because Student Council is one of the top organizations or clubs and it really does run a lot of things, and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Moranga said all members of Student Council participate in the election process.

“(Ms. Lindenberg) asked who wanted to be this position and you raised your hand. After that, you had to give a speech to the Student Council members, and I think the people who are on Student Council this year chose,” Moranga said.

Student Council adviser Sarah Lindenberg said the new elected officers hope to create a more inclusive school environment

“This incoming group has seemed to have a lot of energy behind wanting to reach out to multiple diverse groups of students, which is always nice and I think something that student council is trying to be more intentional about,” Lindenberg said. “They seem to have a pretty good vision for reaching out to students who might not typically come out to the different events or try to make new events that will appeal to new groups of students.”

Moranga said her responsibilities as a Student Council officer begin before the school year ends.

“Every year they have a Facebook group for all of the seniors and we have to start really planning that and start planning other stuff for the senior wall and the senior stuff for the beginning of the year, so we start acting next week,” Moranga.
According to Moranga, the other officers include junior Sophie Yarosh as president, junior Maddie Lund as vice president, junior Malaika Bigirindavyi as public relations and junior Isaac Wert as treasurer.
