MGMT releases new album

Indie-rock band’s third studio collection renews funky style

In the wake of the summer of Daft Punk and psychedelic grooves, American band “MGMT” has released an album to keep the dance floor beats alive.

“MGMT” is the group’s self-titled album, the third collection to have been released since 2007 . Their first, “Oracular Spectacular,” was critically acclaimed and featured hits such as “Kids” and “Time to Pretend,” among other songs featuring the opportunities of youth. While the band’s second album “Congratulations” was not as well-received,  the ten-track “MGMT” promises to once again put the band in the spotlight.

Utilizing aspects of their previous works such as heavy use on synthesizers and slow lyrics, “MGMT” will remind fans of their first album while introducing new elements and deeper effects in some songs. Although this beat can be seen songs such as “Mystery Disease” and “A Good Sadness,” the album can be repetitive in some aspects, such as the use of quieter tones in some songs.

“MGMT” is a great album for those looking to cling to the fading days of summer through upbeat and whimsical lyrics and sounds. However, the repetition and similarity of many songs to each other and previous releases may make the album seem to be one large song rather than ten distinct ones.
