The Artist of SLP

Oscar Laing produces his own music and his own drawings

Sophomore Oscar Laing keeps friends and family in the dark by making and producing his own music that only he is able to listen to.

For Laing making music is all about fun not profit.

“I just make them for fun as a hobby,” Laing said.

Laing has been making music for about five years.  It might be a hobby for now but Laing wants to change that when he gets older.

“I definitely think about it as a career option,” Laing said.

Laing keeps his tracks private as of right now so he’s not quite famous yet.

“I’m getting there,” Laing joked.

Laing makes his music with FL Studios, a program you can download off the internet for free. Laing has made many tracks with FL studios.

“I have about 25 tracks and I usually remix popular songs or make instrumentals,” Laing said.

These tracks primarily focus on one genre.

“I usually make house music, electro dance, just any kind of dancing music mainly,” Laing said.

Laing likes all aspects of making the music but the ending is his favorite.

“My favorite part about making them is to see the finished work, you feel accomplished after finishing a track,” Laing said.

Many high schoolers will admit to the occasional doodle in class but Laing takes the doodles a step further.

“I usually start off with a rough sketch and then start adding details and shading,’” Laing says.

For Laing it started off as doodles but grew into more.  Laing now primarily draws still life.

Oscar Laing does all the things high school students do and still is able to find time for his hobbies like drawing and making music and hopefully someday SLP will be able to hear and see them.
