By staying positive throughout every meet, the girls’ gymnastics team managed to end the pre-sections season with a 3-0-3 record for dual meets.

Junior captain Kelsey Knudsen said this season, her parents helped push her to be a better gymnast.

“I would say that my parents have been attributing a lot to my success this season,” Knudsen said.

According to Knudsen, the close bond between the players helped keep the whole team focused on the sections meet.

“We cheered for each other, played pump-up music and supported each other throughout,” Knudsen said. “It really helped keep our focus on the main goal throughout the season.”

Head coach Gretchen Novak said although the team remained strong, it had a few last-minute skills it needed to work on before its sections meet Feb. 13.

“The team worked on improving on their stamina, getting over some fears and execution before sections,” Novak said.

Scalici said the team planned on making progress at the sections meet by scoring high in each routine.

“(The team) hoped to score around 130 at sections,” Scalici said. “Most of us had a new skill or two to throw in that would raise our score.”

According to sophomore Anna DuSaire, the team scored 124.95 at the meet.

Scalici said even though the team did not manage to reach their goal, they competed hard in the meet.

“Unfortunately we fell short of our goal by a few points, but we did what we could and had a great season overall,” Scalici said.

The sections meet took place at noon Feb. 13 at Eden Prairie High School. The team placed sixth out of the eight teams that participated.
