Tennis player finds passion through family

How long have you been playing tennis?

Probably since I was five, but in an organization on a team I started playing in the sixth grade.

Why do you play tennis?

Partly because my dad played in college and (tennis is) really fun, and really just something I can do with my friends.

How has your dad influenced you to play tennis?

He played Division III and he would ask me if I want to play tennis over the weekend. Sometimes we play each other and he usually beats me, but it’s a good experience.

How do you feel about your first year on varsity?

I’m proud that I made it first off, I’m not doing the best, but that will come with making (varsity) as a freshman. I like meeting new people like upperclassman that I wouldn’t usually interact with. I just like being on the team.

What are the differences between middle school and HS tennis?

High school tennis is a lot more serious and I find myself learning a lot more. (In) middle school we had way too many kids so it wasn’t very organized and you didn’t learn as much. Games are more competitive as well.

What are your expectations and hopes for first sections experience?

I’m hoping I do well and really just win some of my games. I don’t know too much about Sections, but I hope I do well and the team does well.

What qualities help you excel at tennis?

I’m athletic and have very good coordination. I play doubles so I think I work well with other people so we can communicate with each other.

What can you improve?

I’d like to improve my serving and my ground strokes as well.
