The boys’ golf team looks to rebuild after losing numerous seniors, according to senior captain Mikey Segal.

According to Segal, the team looks forward to redeveloping the team.

“We aren’t making any cuts this year because we want to work more on developing the team instead of turning people away from something they might potentially really love to be a part of,” Segal said.

According to head coach Mike Okey, the team looks to not only rebuild the team, but the program as a whole.

“I want to develop a good golf program and not just a good golf team. Golf is one of those unique sports where it doesn’t matter what gender you are,”Okey said. “We want to build those teams together as a program, I want to build a respectful program so younger students know about the golf program and want to start playing.”

According to sophomore Billy Nicholls, the team is excited to build a new dynamic with a new coach and new players.

“We have a new coach, Mike Okey, and the team is really looking forward to playing with each other and building competition,” Nicholls said.

According to Segal, the team anticipates a handful of new players.

“We are expecting about five to 10 new players which will be really great to see what they can bring to the team,” Segal said.

Okey said he looks forward to seeing players improve and learn new lessons every day.

“I want kids to be happy they signed up and that they got better and that is something they will keep playing the rest of their lives,” Okey said.

The team has high expectations coming into the season, according to Nicholls.

“I hope the majority of our team can make it to the second day of sections and finish in the top three in our conference,” Nicholls said.

The team’s first conference match takes place at 1 p.m. April 11 at Minnesota Valley Country Club.
