Tis the season for winter sports beginning

Gymnastics, hockey, nordic, basketball and boys swimming start

Although the arctic temperatures aren’t for everyone, winter sports begin, offering options for those who want to stay warmer in the winter months. Starting on Oct. 27 students registered for winter sports began their practices.

According to athletic department director Andy Ewald, the athletic department informs students when sports begin by making announcements, posting it in the Sun Sailor and on the athletic department webpage.

According to Ewald, registration closes the day the sport starts.

The first winter sport to start is girls’ hockey, starting  Oct. 27, Boys’ hockey, girls’ gymnastics, girls’ and boy’s nordic skiing and boys’ basketball start Nov. 10, girls’ basketball starts Nov. 17 and lastly, boys’ swimming starts Dec. 1.

Sophomore Anna Gleason who plays girls’ hockey said she was excited for the season to start because she enjoys the sport and the people associated with it.

“I was really excited because I like all the girls that I play with and the coach is really great and I just love the sport,” Gleason said.
