When junior Abe Rybeck found out sophomore Joe Holloway was going to DJ at Prom, he was surprised but excited.

“I’ve never heard him DJ before but it’s exciting, since Greg the GLC usually DJs for us,” Rybeck said. “It’ll be cool to have a student.”

Holloway said it was Greg Buck, a Grade Level Coordinator, who approached him about DJing.

“(Greg) told me to get involved with Student Council and Ms. Lindenberg,” Holloway said.

Holloway plans to DJ at Prom this year, according to Student Council adviser Sarah Lindenberg.

“Holloway will be a student DJ this year, and I think it will help bring the community together,” Lindenberg said.

“He’s been working really hard to put the playlist together and work on transitions,” Lindenberg said.

Holloway said he felt nervous at first because the number of people attending Prom, but feels excited about DJ’ing now.

“At first, I was kind of nervous because I heard it would be at least 300 people. Now, I’m really excited,” Holloway said. “I want to make sure people have a good time, I want to have a good time.”

Student Council asked Holloway to DJ because they wanted a student perspective on music, according to junior Student Council President Megan Aune.

“We wanted to know what students wanted as far as music and what better way to do that than to have one DJ,” Aune said.

In addition to adding older songs, Holloway said he has asked students for suggestions.

“I’ve gotten over a hundred suggestions,” Holloway said. “I created the playlist already and it sounds really dope.”

Holloway said he looks forward to encouraging students to dance at Prom.

“I look forward to getting everyone out on the dance floor,” Holloway said. “If I see someone not dancing, I want to play a song that’ll get them out on the dance floor.”

Prom takes place May 21 from 9-12 p.m. on the Mississippi River with the Padelford Boat Company.

Tickets are on sale in the lunchroom for $40.
