With sections still to come for the girls’ varsity golf team, the team had its celebratory banquet at Wolfe Park Pavilion May 23.

Junior varsity player Julia Austad said although it is a little different having the banquet before the season is fully over, it must be before school is out to ensure maximum attendance.

“We cannot celebrate how we did at Sections, but also (sections are) after school ends so it is necessary to do it otherwise no one would come,” Austad said.

Austad also said that she enjoys the banquet due to its informality.

“(The banquet) is really fun because we all just get together and it is pretty low-key and we all just get to hang out and talk and then coaches go up and announce everyone,” Austad said.

Coach Joe Yaeger said even though the season is not over, the banquet is a nice way

to recap the accomplishments of the girls on the team.

“We talked about what we did throughout the year, how certain individuals won all conference honorable mention,” he said. “We talked about how we finished overall this season, (and) where we placed in the conference.”

Yaeger also said he is looking forward to Varsity Sections, and how happy he has been with the team’s improvement throughout the year heading into sections.

“I am very pleased with how the girls progressed and where we are right now, excited to move forward with our varsity team going to sections and I am very optimistic that we will do very well at sections,” Yaeger said.

Sections are June 1 at Ridges at Sand Creek golf course in Jordan, MN.
