Welcome to “Cut Through the Noise,” an Entertainment column from the St. Louis Park Echo covering new music releases. Every week, a different Echo staffer takes on the role as writer, reviewing recent single releases from a variety of artists.

“Freaky Friday” by Lil Dickey (feat. Chris Brown): ★★★★☆

30-year old David Burd, also known as Lil Dickey, dropped the music video for his song with Chris Brown, “Freaky Friday”, with added cameos by Ed Sheeran, DJ Khaled, and Kendall Jenner. The song is set up like a story, in which  Lil Dickey and Chris Brown both switch bodies after wanting to be someone else. Being able to visualize the entire song in the music video is nice. The song has a catchy tune to it which is also nice to hear.

“Walk It Talk It” by Migos (feat. Drake): ★★★☆☆

The song “Walk It Talk It” came out in the Migos album ‘Culture’ 2 on January 26, 2018. The song gained popularity after the music video dropped, which showed the Migos on a show that looked much like Soul Train with Jamie Foxx running the show. The song’s main verse is the title “Walk It Talk It”. The song is very repetitive which makes it easier to sing. Quavo, Offset and Takeoff all get equal amounts of singing time and the feature of Drake also makes the song more appealing to a wider audience.

“Psycho” by Post Malone (feat. Ty Dolla $ign): ★★☆☆☆

Though Post Malone has made some good music, I really don’t connect with his new song “Psycho”. Though past hits like “Rockstar” and “White Iverson” all were somehow relatable “Psycho” is not. The song may not be the best but, the music video is quite entertaining. The video is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which Malone is hunting down a bear. It includes Malone riding in a tank, fighting a bear and using a flamethrower, so the music video at least isn’t boring by any means.
