Before saying “bonjour” to Europe, members of the high school orchestra are hosting a Halloween event in order to help them get there.
The orchestra will be playing a concert Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria to support their trip to London and Paris in 2014. Events will include a Halloween-themed concert, face painting, costume contest, raffle and silent auction.
According to orchestra director Miriam Edgar, the event will feature a lot of entertaining parts.
“After the music of course, the costume contest will be very fun,” she said. “People always have cool ideas like a Rubiks cube.”
In addition to the concert, orchestra members will also be selling chocolates and coupon cards to raise money.
Junior Orchestra Council Co-President Arten Chrisciel said everyone is enthusiastic for the trip and committed to making it a reality.
“Just the fact that this is our first international trip makes this exciting,” he said. “We have never done anything like this before.”
As a testament to the orchestra’s enthusiasm, Edgar said students have improved a lot and participation has doubled.
“The orchestra has made leaps and bounds and the skill level has gone way up,” she said. “This trip is a motivator for the kids. They are working really hard.”
