Girls’ volleyball bonds with each other

According to junior Taylor Ewald, varsity volleyball members stay close friends because of activities they do together, such as pasta parties and other social events.

“We went to Calhoun over the summer and then we’re going to ValleySCARE as a varsity team. We have pasta parties. We went to Olive Garden for dinner,” Ewald said.

The team members are really close because many of them play together every year, according to junior Anna Gleason.

“I think our team is really close. We’re kinda like a mini-family,” Gleason said. “A lot of us have been playing together for a really long time and we’ve just kind of bonded over the last couple years.”

Junior Makayla Jones-Klausing said bonding occurs between teams in addition to between varsity players.

“This year we’re a lot closer, not just as individual teams, but as an entire program,” Klausing said. “Every team is closer with other people from other teams, so there’s a lot more connection between upperclassmen and underclassmen and the middle schoolers that are playing.”

Being close helps the girls have more confidence in each other and grow as team, according to Klausing.

“It makes us trust each other more and it helps us grow as a family, which helps us play better as a team,” Klausing said.

Although the team is close, the girls need to work on their communication during games, according to varsity coach Whitney Meierotto.

“The atmosphere is great. We’re working on increasing our communication, getting louder on the court and being more comfortable with each other,” Meierotto said. “Other than that is great, it’s very positive. It’s great the girls are very encouraging for each other.”

The varsity team’s last match takes place 7 p.m. Oct. 22 against Richfield at Richfield high school. Sections begin Oct. 27.
