Juniors Rafferty Kugler and Jacob Stillman await their ping pong club proposal as it is reviewed. Pending approval, the ping pong club aims to provide a fun and relaxed environment for students.

“It is a sport that not a lot of people know the rules. It is a thing people can learn. It isn’t an aggressive or active sport, it is very laid back” Kugler said

Kugler said she hopes to see the club competing with ping pong clubs at other schools. She said Benilde-St. Margaret’s and other schools surrounding the metro also have their own ping pong clubs.

“We are going to try and start competing with other schools,” Kugler said.

Although still awaiting approval, Kugler said she sees the club meeting once every other week. She said  meetings would either take place at the school, or informally, at Stillman’s house, if the club cannot get any ping pong tables donated to the school.

According to Park athletic director Andy Ewald, a reviewal committee consisting of himself, Park’s assistant principal Kari Schwietering, principal Scott Myers and several other staff members, evaluate club applications to determine approval.

“There is going to be a committee that meets quarterly and they will sit down and review any new applications,” Ewald said.

Ewald said he likes the idea of having a ping pong club at the school.

“I think ping pong is a great activity to do. It would be something I think that would be good to have around,” Ewald said.

According to the athletic office, the two juniors will have to wait several weeks to hear on their proposal. For more information regarding the club, Kugler recommends following their Facebook page: “Ping Pong 2016-2017”.
