After the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Twin Cities area, District Communications Director Sara Thompson addressed Park’s closing and dismissal policies.

“St. Louis Park Public Schools will do our best to make a decision about a late start or school closing by 5:30 a.m.,” Thompson said. “Early dismissal and decisions regarding afterschool and evening athletics, events and activities will be made by 2 p.m.”

Thompson said Park receives their weather information and then communicates the cancellations and delays to the students and their families.

“The school district is in contact with the National Weather Service, St. Louis Park Transportation, and leaders from other school districts,” Thompson said. “To provide the best response to keep students and staff safe in severe weather conditions.”

According to Thompson, if no announcement is made, students should treat the day as normal.

“If a school closing, late start or early dismissal is not announced,” Thompson said, “staff and students should attend as usual.”

German teacher Shari Fox said that she will not be expecting a snow day at Park.

“I bet you the snow goes south and we get rain,” Fox said.

Junior Bailey Hatchet said she loves snow days because they give students an opportunity to catch up on schoolwork.

“I just sleep all day. Yes I love snow days, I just sleep,” Hatchet said. “I get a longer time to sleep and get work done I guess. I have to retake a test (Friday) so I would miss that.”
