After what feels like forever, “Avatar Fire and Ash,” or as others call it, Avatar three, has finally come out in theatres. Directed by James Cameron, the action-packed fantasy is one that I would recommend to others. The visuals and emotions make you feel like a character because you are watching it from close up, almost like through the characters eyes. The film follows Jake Sully and his family protecting Pandora from humans, while Jake’s family is still coping with Neteyam’s death from the second movie. They also have to deal with a new member of the family, who is a human named Spider.
One aspect of the Avatar movies that often goes overlooked is the visuals. While many films rely heavily on dialogue, Avatar movies always excel at the show, not tell aspect. Instead of spending their CGI budget on making the world look beautiful, they use visuals to actively tell the story and immerse the viewer in what’s happening and how they should feel about it. The imagery builds emotion and tension, which keeps the audience on the edge of their seats, waiting for what’s next. The suspense, emotion and visuals truly were perfect. The way that I was on the edge of my seat for what was going to happen next, even after something completely unnecessary, just drastically changed the whole series in one scene earlier.
If there’s one thing you take away from this review, it’s that you should see this movie in 3D. As someone who watched it in 3D, I highly recommend it. The visuals were unbelievable and truly out of this world. These movies always feel like they were made decades ahead of their time. Watching it in 3D enhanced the emotions tied to Pandora and its characters, making an already stunning film even more impressive.
If I had to use four words to describe this movie to someone about to see it, I would say, ‘bad idea, perfect execution.’ That being said, Cameron is a three-time Oscar winner, which is very special. While I have given a great review so far, I found that the basic idea of the plot felt strange. I did not enjoy the elements of the plot that changed what made the first two movies so magical. For example, introducing a new tribe that is evil and tries to destroy Pandora instead of cherishing and loving it.
In conclusion, the film is definitely worth a watch, and even though some key plot elements were strange, the movie was still great. The movie was beautiful and truly gave me an immersive experience while making me feel the emotions that the characters were having. I recommend that if you do see the movie, you see it in 3D, as it will give you a much better experience and will make every second feel more worth it.
