FAQs

I have noticed something in the reporting that is not accurate, how do I report this?

While we strive for accuracy, we know that errors can occur. In the event of an error being reported by readers or noticed by staff, we will first check to see if the information is erroneous. If the printed information is deemed incorrect, staff will alter the online content to reflect the correction and then print a correction in the next printed edition. In regard to material appearing on the website, nothing will be taken down unless it is proven factually false or otherwise legally deficient as of the time it was published. If you have found erroneous information, please use the Contact Us form found HERE. A member of our editorial staff will reach out to you with a response in two school days

How do I submit a letter to the editor?

The Echo welcomes reader input. Letters must be signed and should be no longer than 250 words. The letter may be emailed to [email protected] or submitted in room B231. Emailed letters must be verified prior to publication. We will not necessarily publish all letters received, and reserve the right to ask the writer to edit for length and clarity. The Echo reserves the right to withhold a letter if we believe there are notable errors that could result in misinterpretation. Anonymous letters will not be printed

I have a great idea for a story. How do I get my story idea to the editorial staff?

Please use the Request Coverage form found HERE. An Echo editor will get back you in two school days (or less)

How do I become a guest contributor?

Unfortunately, we do not publish guest contributors. Echo staff goes through a thorough on-boarding process grounded in journalistic ethics and the editorial process. All of our stories go through this process. If you would like to become a contributor, we welcome you take one of three journalism courses (Journalism: Audio for Media, Advanced Journalism: News or Advanced Journalism: Video Production). In all three courses, you will learn journalistic ethics and the editorial process. You can take the courses in any order you would like. Please reach out to us if you would like to learn more

How to find a copy of the print edition?

We publish  at the end of every quarter. Because of high printing costs (and that Echo staff raise the entire publication budget) we produce a limited run of the print publication. We have magazine racks in B2 and A3. We hold onto a limited number of archive copies. Finally, you can find a digital flipbook of the latest edition HERE

What if there is an article or photo that I would like removed from slpecho.com?

All takedown requests are presented to the editorial board—who have the final decision. Nothing will be taken down unless it is proven factually false or otherwise legally deficient as of the time it was published. The Echo is covered by the First Amendment and New Voices protections, and is a historical record of the St. Louis Park High School community. Therefore, stories are not taken down from the website or removed from a publication regardless of request. Taking action to remove content would constitute censorship of the publication. As for publication images, journalists follow a code of ethics when it comes to coverage. Therefore, reporters do not have to ask permission to take photos of students or to post photos on our web and social media sites because they are used to report school news and not for personal, social use
