A night of mystery, horror, music and storytelling is all to be expected from the Twin Cities Horror Festival.

For ten days starting on Oct. 31, the Southern Theater in Minneapolis will host the Twin Cities Horror Festival. The festival incorporates more than 40 performances and a costume party, which all center around Halloween.

Jenn Newman, a member of the Four Humors Theater, is one of the main contributors behind the second annual Twin Cities Horror Festival. After the success of the initial Horror Festival, which took place last year and sold over a thousand tickets, Newman said the Southern Theater is preparing for an even more outstanding showing from this years crowd.

“The first festival was very successful,” Newman said. “This year our goal is to keep the high quality from the shows but add other things.”

Watching a performance on Halloween and the nights following is not the most conventional activity for a high schooler, but students like junior Sean Burk are beginning to warm up to the idea.

“I grew up knowing that Halloween was both scary and fun, so this festival embodies both of these aspects,” Burk said.

According to Newman one of the main aspects of these performances are the feelings caused by the acting.

“It’s interesting to watch the reaction from the audience,” Newman said. “Last year people were even yelling during some of the shows.”

Senior Emmet Bongaarts also believes in the power of emotions caused by seeing these performances live and in person.

“Knowing that something is fake is less frightening,” Bongaarts said. “Seeing it performed live is much more intimate than watching a movie.”

The festival goes from Oct. 31 through Nov. 9 at the Southern Theatre which is located on 1420 Washington Ave S Minneapolis, MN. The tickets cost 15$ each and the shows begin at seven PM on Thursday.
