The biggest celebration ever held by The Current public radio station commences in January to acknowledge the station’s decade milestone.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary on air, the station is hosting a 10 day long event. Several well known local and national artists including Jeremy Messersmith and Caroline Smith  are coming to the Twin Cities to perform in order to support the anniversary.

Jill Riley, co-host of the Current’s morning radio show said she is looking forward to taking part in the anniversary’s festivities.

“In the past we made the anniversary one night, but for the 10th anniversary we wanted to do random acts of music over ten days,” Riley said.

Sophomore Nina Afremov said she listens to the Current everyday and is excited about the anniversary.

“What I love about the Current is that they do stuff in the community, it’s an interactive radio station,” Afremov said.

While a majority of the concerts associated with the event are 18+ and 21+, there are many events for all ages to participate in.

“It’s a long list of activities with a lot of stuff to do that is tailor made for the community,” Riley said.

Guests are encouraged to attend shows and events for all ages. These include a coffee break where people are able to come into Minnesota’s public radio forum for coffee and snacks while listening to The Current’s morning show be broadcasted live. People are also invited to go to the Electric Fetus to shop for records with The Current’s DJs.

Jill Riley said this event will bring the community together through music.

“The Current is like a personal speaker, it’s not just a radio station, it’s something you create in your backyard,” Riley said.

The festivities will be held from Jan. 13-23, with different events happening each day.
