Pre-homecoming recommendations

As a senior, I have had my fair share of school dances. In my opinion, the homecoming dance itself is the most boring part of the night — it turns out to be the place where I spend the least amount of time. Personally, my favorite part of the night is dressing up and taking pictures. To make your homecoming experience as smooth as possible, here are some of my top hot spots to fulfill all of your pre-dance needs.

For pictures that are on point…

#1— Lake Harriet Bandshell

Set on the picturesque Lake Harriet, the Bandshell is one of the most popular spots to take pictures for school dances. With a neutral background, the castle-like Bandshell allows for a beautiful background because it allows everyone’s outfit to really pop. The only downside to this location is that it has been having some on and off construction throughout the year, so it is hard to tell if it will be available.

#2— Rose/Peace (Rock) Garden

If you’re still digging the Lake Harriet location but are looking for some more greenery, the Rose/Peace Garden is a perfect option. As being one of the oldest rose gardens in the US, this specific garden is filled with beautiful flowers, lush greenery and fountains set up for a scenic and eye-pleasing backdrop. Due to homecoming being in October this year, the color changing leaves will add even more color to your photos.

#3—Wayzata Beach

If you decide to have your meal in the Wayzata area, there’s no reason to make the trek all the way back to the Minneapolis area. Wayzata beach is the perfect melting pot of industrial as well as organic, natural settings. Taking pictures here makes the pre-dance schedule go very smoothly due to the restaurants being in close-proximity to where you’ll be taking photos.

For some outstanding outfits…

#1— Lulus

My tried and true company to get the majority of my formal and semi formal dresses. As an online store, they are as consistent as they come. Ordering is always a breeze, shipping is fast and efficient and even if it doesn’t end up working out, returns and refunds are easy-peasy.

#2— Princess Polly

Another very reliable brand for fast, efficient shipping as well as great quality. There are so many different and fun styles of dresses that they offer and are usually very on trend to what’s popular. They run frequent sales and discounts, especially for students, so you’re almost never playing full price.

#3—Macys/Nordstrom

If you’re looking for the classic department store dress shopping experience, you can never go wrong with Macys or Nordstrom. Both offer an array of different brands, styles and colors so you’re bound to find your dream dress. They also offer men’s formal wear like dress pants and shoes, if you’re looking for those pieces.

For fueling up before…

#1— Hazelwood

Only a brief six minute drive from the high school where the homecoming dance will be held, Hazelwood is a fantastic New American restaurant. Their menu consists of a wide variety of dishes from many different cuisines. From poke bowls to prime ribs, there is an option for everyone without having to break the bank.

#2— Barrio

Located at 50th and France in Edina, Barrio is a Latin American restaurant. This restaurant serves tapas and delicious tacos, burritos and bowls. In a cozy environment, it’s nestled in this area and accompanied by many dessert options surrounding it, like Sweet Science.

#3—Sakana Sushi

If you’re thinking of taking pictures in Wayzata and you’re a seafood lover, you might as well head over to Sakana after. Sakana is a Japanese restaurant specializing in their rolls. If you’re not so much into sushi, they also offer stir-fry, soups, salads and other fried dishes.

Hey y’all!! My name is Abby, I’m a senior and this will be my third year on Echo (whoa!!). When I’m not designing an infographic on Canva hidden away in the Pub, you can find me drinking any sort of matcha (preferably matcha lemonade), devouring a nice bowl of Pho from Quang, or hanging out with Ruby Viot (my favorite person ever). You can usually catch me with my headphones on listening to Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Tyler Childers or Zach Bryan! #PeaceOut #CanvaQueen
