‘A Great Chaos’ doesn’t live up to its great hype

Ken Carson’s new album disappoints

After a long 10-month wait, Ken Carson’s album “A Great Chaos” finally dropped on Oct. 13 by Opium and Interscope Records. Ken Carson has been teasing and messing with fans by dropping glimpses of his album, making fans want to listen to “A Great Chaos” more. With his creativity, he dropped the record on Friday the 13th, a supposed cursed day. Compared to his previous albums such as “X” and “XTENDED,” this album disappoints in comparison. With 18 songs and a run time of 46 minutes, the songs on this album are mediocre and shaky.

“A Great Chaos” is Carson’s third studio album that he has dropped. This album includes features from Lil Uzi Vert, F1LTHY, Destroy Lonely and OuttaTown. Even with all the features on this album, it feels like some of these songs were rushed and could have used more work to make it sound better. This album simply didn’t hit like his other popular albums do. With this album, it feels like there are only two good songs throughout the whole album which are “Fighting My Demons” and “Jennifer’s Body.” The rest of the songs just sound like gibberish over beats that are mixed up together that create dull songs.

One of the most popular and anticipated songs on the album was “Jennifer’s Body” due to it being leaked. A lot of users used the snippets of “Jennifer’s Body” as a meme and funny joke. Personally, I think it’s a decent song. Ken Carson comes out hard with the lyrics, but the songs are  carried mostly by the hard beat drops and the beats flowing out. During the chorus, Carson repeats the same lyrics over and over again, saying he’s “keeping it a hundred.”

Another anticipated song from the album was “Fighting my Demons.” This is honestly the best song on the album, with Carson coming out hard with the beats and lyrics which mash together and create a good sound. This is most definitely my favorite song on this album. It’s already topping the charts, being number two on his Spotify list, right under his most listened to song “Yale.” Ken Carson really came out with a bang for this one.

One of the lows of his album is “Lose It.” It just sounds like a bunch of noise and bass mixed up together, with the lyrics making no sense at all. Overall, this is an average and boring song. I feel like Carson could have done a way better job with the lyrics and the chorus coming into this song. Mostly it just sounds like a bunch of gibberish and beats all mixed up together, so this is definitely a low for this album.

Overall, “A Great Chaos” is a mediocre piece of music. For me, this has to be one of Ken Carson’s worst albums. Carson just keeps getting worse and worse with only having two good songs on this album—it’s just a disappointment. The shaky flow and hard bass beats just don’t mix if you don’t come in with some hard lyrics to mix it all up together. I hope that Ken Carson reflects on this album and pushes to make better music in the future.

If you actually analyse the cadence changes, beat production and just overall improvement of confidence within this album you can actually tell that this is massive improvement to his previous album. Yes to be fair there are maybe 2 or 3 misses, but despite the constant leaking and hacking of this project he has actually managed to drop a really good album and arguably CLEARS ‘if looks could kill’ as he is actually evolving and trying a different sound and aesthetic compared to Destroy Lonely just using repetitive sadboy guitar loops. I do respect your opinion but before you go on complaining about a NEW album without properly comparing it to some his older projects and seeing his evolution as an artist. And before you say that his lyrics are basic and repetitive maybe take a look at Whole Lotta Red and tell me how deep and inspiring those lyrics are. Realistically everyone raps about drugs and women but its ultimately the output, production and the overall sound of the song that matters, you can dislike the sound if you please, but to say that he is “getting worse” is very unreasonable.
