“Watermelon” is a popular game that is spreading and taking over peoples phones at Park. The game works like this—there is one fruit at the top of the screen that you tap to drop. After you drop one fruit, another one pops up and you have to try and match it with the same fruit you dropped. When you get the same fruit as the one dropped you must click it to where the other fruit will touch to evolve the fruit and the fruit will change to a different fruit and you keep going until you get a watermelon.

Civics teacher Charles Mahaffy said he found out about the game by catching seeing others playing it.

“I found out about the game because I caught students in class playing and wasting class time,” Mahaffey said. “My friend Aj Foster also told me about it.”

According to sophomore Zach Stillman, he downloaded it during Thanksgiving break and has been addicted since then.

I’ve been playing for about a couple of weeks now, I downloaded it right before Thanksgiving,” Stillman said. “I’ve been hooked ever since.”

According to junior Sydney Gallentine, her boredom can make her play the game up to six times a day.

“(I play it depending) on how bored I am or what I’m doing in class,” Gallentine said. “If it’s just a regular day, then maybe three or four times (I would play it) but if I’m really bored I could play up to six times a day.”

Stillman said he plays it in class, and how some of his teachers have been intrigued by it.

“I would say (I play it) once or twice a class period, depending if my work is done that day,” Stillman said. “But even when I’m not supposed to, teachers and staff have watched me play and are intrigued by the game.”

Gallentine said she thinks the game is a super fun game that’s very hard to stop playing.

I’d rate it an eight out of ten,” Gallentine said. “It’s super addictive and once you start, it’s hard to get off it.”
