With summer 2025 approaching, it’s about time to start predicting the upcoming fashion trends for the new season. None of these predictions should be particularly surprising, considering that for the most part, they are all either annual staples or trends we’ve already seen rising in popularity in the past few months or years. Style and clothing are subjective, and ultimately should solely rely on one’s own personal taste and self-expression. Now, with all that said, here are some of my summer 2025 fashion trend predictions.
Nightwear worn out
Loungewear and pajama-inspired clothing are something we’ve been seeing gain a lot of popularity in the past few years. However, with the recent popularity of pop star Sabrina Carpenter and her Short n’ Sweet tour, which featured performance outfits heavily inspired by nightwear, it will be the cherry on top of this trend coming into full bloom this summer. With the rise of delicate detailing like bows, ribbons and lace becoming very popular these past few years, these details will tie into this trend very nicely, adding to the aspects of the nightwear worn out. With elements like matching sets, cotton, silk, ruffles and dainty patterns we’ve seen trending in other clothing items recently, I’ve especially been noticing this trend appearing through fashion brands like Brandy Melville. With all these elements gaining popularity over the past several years, it’s no surprise that they’re all combining together to form one mutual trend.
Unique takes on the “Basic Tank”
If I had to pick one staple I see taking over this summer it would be different iterations of the basic tank top, with minor unique characteristics to give it variety. Although this sounds very broad, I’ve already seen these kinds of tops being sold by countless clothing brands since it’s a simple take on timeless pieces that can be easily individualized and styled to one’s personal taste. Characteristics like interesting necklines, one strap, buttons, lace, bows, corsets, cutouts, unique fabrics, decals and simple yet playful patterns are the types of things I see displayed in this trend.
Detailings
Bright and pastel colors have long been associated with the warmer seasons of spring and summer. I predict that we will be seeing a lot of vibrant colors and pastels this summer, like shades of yellow, blue and pink. Also, honorable mention to some more muted colors like grays and navy blues. I also expect to see some cute floral patterns in these shades of pastels and neutrals. Floral patterns can be found year-round in different styles, but I think smaller flower prints that are not too loud or overpowering will be what we see this summer. I also think we are going to be seeing a lot of stripes this summer, specifically horizontal stripes. Not only are they timeless, but they’ve already been popping up in a lot of stores recently. Just like any pattern, they kind of cycle in and out through the years but I see them definitely making a comeback. Similar to that is buttons. In the past few years we’ve seen the classic button-up tops and detailings have some competition, being mildly fazed out by lace-up, corsets, zippers, elastic, snaps and ribbon. But I think this is the year for the full-fledged comeback of button-ups, as we’ve noticed this past fall and winter.
Denim skirts
Skirts can be worn in many different variations, with one of the most popular being a denim miniskirt. With the long-standing summer classic of jean shorts, one of the only fair rivals I’ve seen rise is the mini denim skirt. Now these are nothing new to the fashion scene but they seem to weave in and out of popularity since the early 2000s when they were in their heyday. However, I did notice the basic mini denim skirt had a pretty dramatic rebirth last summer, and I don’t think it’s going away just yet. I predict that we will continue to see the same popularity we saw with the skirts last summer this upcoming summer as well.
Brown sunglasses
Sunglasses are always a summer fashion classic due to their obvious functionality during the season, while also acting as a great way to accessorize any outfit. Since sunglasses on their own are a little too broad to be a trend, I predict that brown sunglasses will be what’s taking over this season. Over the past year, I’ve noticed a huge revival and praise of the tortoise shell print commonly appearing on glasses, so elements like that, as well as brown tinted lenses themselves, will be apparent in the sunglasses of this season.
