Another amusing, violent movie came out this year called, “Kill Boksoon.” The movie, the cast and the cinematography as a whole deserves recognition, considering how violent and realistic each scene is. “Kill Boksoon” was released on March 31 of 2023. This movie is about a woman who lives two lives. At work, she’s a celebrity assassin who is loved by her peers and her boss, and at home she’s a single mother who’s struggling to find the positives in having a smart, teenage daughter.

Gil Bok-soon (Jeon Do-yeon) is the main character of “Kill Boksoon.” She is the assassin that everybody in her job looks up to because of how successful, cool and fun she is. You can tell she’s wealthy because of the way she dresses — she always wears some type of blazer and no matter how you look at it, she looks powerful, in control and a total boss. As I watched the film I started to notice that most of the assassins wear suits or some type of business attire.

The casting for “Kill Boksoon”’ caught me a bit off guard. As someone who watches a lot of K-Dramas, it’s odd seeing an actress who plays a sweet, innocent mother in “Crash Course in Romance” portrayed as a cold, violent assassin in “Kill Boksoon.” Jeon Do-yeon played her character so perfectly as a stressed out single mother who had to balance work with raising a complicated teenage daughter into the mix. Her character, Gil Bok-soon, made a promise to her boss to never bring family matters and emotional issues into work life. As she remembered her promise, she took matters into her own hands later in the film.

The soundtrack of “Kill Boksoon” wasn’t really able to catch my attention while I was watching the film, but there was a specific scene where Bok-soon and Cha Min-kyu (Sol Kyung-gyu), first laid eyes on each other as he was about to finish his mission. Bok-soon takes her headphones off and a love song starts playing as they gaze into each other’s eyes. The name of the song has yet to be released at the moment. I feel like if there was more suspenseful music playing during the fight scenes, it could make the movie seem more complete but other than that, everything else was put together effortlessly.

I really recommend watching “Kill Boksoon,” depending on if you can handle violence, gore and very out of pocket scenes. The rating of the movie is TV-MA, so that’s why I’m trying to warn viewers before watching this film. Besides the action, the plot goes without saying, one of the most satisfying endings ever. The casting, the emotions, the action, the story — it’s all put together smoothly into one satisfying film.
