At just 18 years old, Australian singer-rapper The Kid LAROI has already made a significant impact on the music industry. After releases of successful projects like “Let Her Go,” “Diva” and “Addison Rae,” an album has been long awaited. His debut album “THE FIRST TIME,” released Nov. 10, is a blend of emotional depth and catchy melodies that showcases his talent and versatility as a young artist.

From the opening track, “SORRY,” LAROI sets the tone for an album that is honest and introspective. He dives into themes of heartbreak, loss and self-discovery. His vocals and confessional lyrics create a feeling that draws you into his world. He sings, “No one ever told me what I’d have to sacrifice for fame. I’m just tryin’ not to go insane. But I got all this weight on me and I just wanna run away.” These lyrics show just how much pressure LAROI is under as an artist. He admits how hard it can be trying to live up to all of the expectations from others, and himself.

Standout tracks include “WHERE DOES YOUR SPIRIT GO?” a tribute to LAROI’s late mentor Juice WRLD, who passed away in 2018, and “LOVEDRUG,” an anthem of heartbreak and longing. LAROI’s ability to switch between heartfelt and uptempo songs is a testament to his range as an artist. Standout features include those from Future, Youngboy Never Broke Again and Central Cee. These artists complement LAROI’s style of music and only make the album better, like we see in “WHAT’S THE MOVE,” where Future comes in and delivers a great verse that surprises the listener and makes the song more interesting.

The album’s production is equally impressive, blending elements of hip-hop, pop and alternative to create a unique soundtrack. The beats are interesting, the melodies are memorable and the arrangements are thoughtful. The production complements LAROI’s vocals, adding depth and texture to his storytelling.

Although it had many bright spots, “THE FIRST TIME” has its flaws. Some songs like “BLEED” and “WHAT JUST HAPPENED” feel repetitive or underdeveloped, and the album’s overall sound is somewhat unvaried. However, these shortcomings are overshadowed by LAROI’s undeniable talent and the emotion he pours into his music.

Despite its imperfections, “THE FIRST TIME” is an impressive debut album that establishes LAROI as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. His ability to connect with listeners on an emotional level is amazing, and so is his talent for creating catchy and memorable songs. With this album, LAROI has proven that he is more than just a kid. He is a true artist with a promising future ahead of him.
