Well-known Opium rapper Destroy Lonely packed the Fillmore in downtown Minneapolis Feb. 11. This concert featured his most recent album, “LOVE LASTS FOREVER.” The setlist was about 12 or so songs and the tickets were priced at $60 for the floor and $130+ for the balcony. The show lasted about three hours, with the doors opening at 6 p.m.. The opener started at 7 p.m., and Destroy Lonely came out at around 7:45 p.m.. He wrapped up his last song a little after 9 p.m.. Overall, the concert was a great experience.
In terms of getting ready for the concert and arriving, everything was very easy. I bought my ticket for the concert two days before and had no issues regarding overpricing or being able to access them after purchase. I went with a friend, and we decided to arrive at about 6:30 p.m. to be able to get in and find a place on time. We found parking about only a block away, and it was fairly priced at $11 for three hours. Entrance into the venue was very smooth as well. There was no line as we entered and got through security in no time at all.
The Fillmore is one of Minneapolis’ more known venues. In terms of size, most people consider it to be medium-sized with a capacity of 1,500 people. The Fillmore is one big, open room with a stage at the back and balcony seats above. As more people started flowing in it started to get pretty packed, even though it wasn’t a sold-out show. However, we were able to comfortably stand in our corner of the floor until the show started.
Destroy Lonely’s DJ opened the show by playing some concert favorite songs like “Rock n Roll” by fellow Opium rapper Ken Carson. After about 30 minutes of hyping up the crowd, Destroy Lonely came out to start the main part of the show. At this point, the crowd was pretty much a mosh pit due to his style of hardcore rap music. He opened with “SYRUP SIPPER” from the new album. His stage presence was fantastic and had everyone in the crowd jumping. I was able to make it to the front of the pit so it was starting to get pretty wild as he led into more of his fast-paced, bass-heavy songs like “FOREVER” and “how u feel?”
Throughout the concert, everyone maintained pretty high energy and sang along with almost every song. My favorite part, however, was when he started to sing his most popular song “NOSTYLIST.” The moment it started playing, the entire crowd started going wild (me included). As he was singing, he was dancing and moving around the whole stage, and it uplifted his whole performance as he interacted with his fans and the crowd.
As the show started wrapping up, he finished off with another song “LOVE HURTS,” from his newest album. The crowd tried to get him to come back for an encore, but he continued the trend of the tour and left it at the last song. The entire set was amazing and was such a great experience. The crowd was lively almost the entire time and matched his rap/rock energy to a T. The price and accessibility of the concert was perfect and made for a great time at a good value. The Fillmore was a perfect locale for Destroy Lonely and I would 100% see him again.
