Chemistry teacher and IB coordinator Jenny Magdal said she encourages Park students to go and support the IB program in their fundraiser at Blaze Pizza.

“(Students) can go and support their (IB) classmates while enjoying some good pizza,” Magdal said.

Magdal said the idea for a fundraiser at Blaze arose when she learned Junior Thomas Bryant, a diploma candidate, worked there and was trying to increase business at his place of work.

“Thomas Bryant is an employee at Blaze Pizza, and they were running an internal competition to get the most people to have a fundraiser there,” Magdal said. “And (since he is) a diploma candidate, I wanted to support him in his endeavors outside of school at work. So I wanted to support him and I was like we could actually use some things for fun stuff for IB.”

Magdal said she plans to use money from the fundraiser mainly towards treats, whether in meetings or for the long exams that occur in May. In the past she has had to pay for these out of her own pocket, but would now have funds for those.

“I spend a lot of my own money on things for the program, like bringing treats to meetings and that sort of thing, so hopefully I will not have to spend so much of my own money to do that sort of thing. (Also to) make sure that we have treats for the long exams this May, like granola bars or things like that so when people are sitting there for three hours they can have a treat while they are testing.”

Magdal doesn’t have a set monetary goal for the fundraiser, but is hopeful that it can help out the program moving forward.

The fundraiser will take place at the the Blaze at Knollwood Mall on Tuesday, December 13, from 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
