Sophomore Greta Kulevsky said she is excited to start her summer job at a Oak Ridge Country Club because of the new opportunities it will give her.

“I will get new learning experiences, learn how to work at a pool, learn how to work with others and learn how to work as a community and as a team,” Kulevsky said.

Career and college coordinator Kara Mueller said in her opinion, summer jobs are extremely helpful for students to use their past knowledge.

“It is a great way for students to be able to take all there academic skills you’ve been earning here at school and apply them,” Mueller said. “It just reevaluates why school matters, plus it gives you spending money and the freedom to make your own decisions.”

Kulevsky said it is great to have a summer job because she is able to to focus on her job and not have to worry about school.

“During the school year I can focus on school and other activities and during the summer I can focus on my job and don’t have to worry about school,” Kulevsky said.

According to junior Emma Roloff, who has a summer job as a lifeguard at the Rec Center, she likes having a summer job because it provides flexibility.

“You obviously have a lot more free time in the summer and a lot more flexibility with time management because while you’re at school from seven to three you can only work after and then in the summer you can work all day or a half day or whenever you want,” Roloff said.

Mueller encourages students to obtain a summer job because of the opportunities and understanding that it gives students.

“Take advantage of it if you can. You know as much as possible because you grow by taking in as many experiences as you can. I highly recommend students take advantage of their summers and work if they can even if they volunteer they are going to learn a lot,” Mueller said.

According to Kulevsky, having a summer job is very beneficial to be able to expand your horizons and is favorable to do during the summer.

“I think having a summer job is good because you get new experiences meet new people and it’s just a good thing to do during the summer,” Kuvlesky said.

According to Mueller, the school provides many different opportunities for students to be able to find these jobs and apply for them. Mueller has been contacted by many businesses in search of help from students.

“There’s a wide range of opportunities anywhere from working in finance all the way to working in warehouses,” Mueller said.
