Teams composed of female football players played against one another Monday night in a friendly, yet competitive match.

Activities after school for the homecoming events started on monday with a championship tournament between six female football teams.

Powder Puff football was the first of five events to celebrate the homecoming week. Powder Puff was classified as a ‘community event’ by student council and was attended by teachers and students alike. It took place 7 p.m. at Oak Hill park.

Even though boys could not participate in the actual game, they could be involved by coaching the different teams. Senior Noah Fortmeyer said this was his first time coaching a Powder Puff football team, and was excited by the opportunity.

“I’m very honored to be a coach at the event, they could have chosen anybody,” Fortmeyer said. “I’ve never been here before, but it’s a great way to kick off homecoming week.”

For senior Lauryn Myhra, playing in Powder Puff was her first time participating in any Homecoming event at all. She was very excited for a chance to play.

“I’m glad to be playing football out here with friends and other students, there is lots of energy and Park pride,” Myhra said. “It’s senior year and I’ve never been to a homecoming laevent before, so I thought it would be a great way to be involved.”

Under coach Fortmeyer, Myhra played with the Sweat-ers team, who had a losing record of 0-2 and were eliminated in successive losses. Overall six teams competed, and each had the chance to play multiple games. The “lacrosstitutes” and “colorful o’s” competed in the championship, with the colorful o’s leaving victorious.

Tonight, and for the rest of the homecoming week, students will be able to attend events including Thursday’s badminton tournament.
