With the fully staged production of “Ragtime” in just over a month, rehearsal has become all the more important, according to choir director John Myszkowski.

According to Myszkowski, this year’s annual gala takes place at 7:00 p.m. Feb. 26-28 and at 2:00 p.m. Mar. 1 in the high school auditorium.

Myszkowski said by now the choir has run through a considerable portion of the musical, and he hopes to run through the entire musical before next semester.

“We’ve gone through a third of the show already with orchestra,” Myszkowski said. “By the end of the semester we will have gone through the whole show with orchestra.”

Choir accompanist Cynthia Scherer described the rehearsal process so far as enjoyable. She said the sopranos, altos, bases and tenors recently began rehearsing together.

“It’s fun for the kids to hear wow, it’s not just my part,” Scherer said.

Freshman Kyle Hedblom described the rehearsal process as slow but steady.

“We take a lot of time to make sure we’re doing it right,” Hedblom said.

Senior 4-year choir member Becca Brubaker said she plays the role of Cathleen, an Irish maid for the main character known only as Mother. Brubaker said she enjoys rehearsing, and only worries about one aspect of her role.

“I have to learn an Irish accent,” Brubaker said.

Sophomore Max Blackburn said the upcoming performance has created a lot of stress in choir, which he thinks will dissipate when the performance begins due to sufficient preparation.

“I feel we’re going to to be worried about it up until we get to the performance, when we realize we are ready, and then it will go well,” Blackburn said.
