After months of training, the Natural Helper peer counselors are able to give advice to students who seek help. The Natural Helpers club is a student run peer counseling organization that provides students with someone to talk to and trust with their problems, according to co-president of the club, Dave Herrera.

Students have learned the basics of counseling through trainer, Daniel Perez. Herrera said Perez’s training gives counselors skills to help others more effectively.

“During training, we learned listening skills, how to express concern, and knowing when students need help. We were also taught how to recognize a situation that requires professional help,” Herrera said.

Information about each counselor will be posted so students can decide who is the best fit for them.

“We have been trained, now we are just trying to set up a wall with pictures and information about each trainer so other students can see that and seek help,” Herrera said.  “They can go to Luskey and she will guide them to a natural helper.”

The wall will be located between the A and B hall on floor two or three.

Adviser, Allison Luskey said she is excited the club has launched.

“I am excited to see how the club takes off. I think that it is a good way for students to strengthen their helping skills by providing support and a trustworthy ear for those who need it,” Luskey said.
