Quiz bowl’s A team received the news Apr. 13 that the school board agreed to finance the $650 entrance fee for the national tournament in Chicago May 29-31.

The team qualified for the national tournament by competing in the Burnsville state tournament Feb. 19. However, the team was unsure of whether it would attend nationals due to the $650 entrance fee.

Now that the school board agreed to fund the entrance fee, the only thing keeping the team from participating in the national tournament is being 10th on the waitlist. Senior Elliot Schwartz said the team waited too long to officially sign up for the tournament, so they are still waiting to get a spot.

“It’s fair. They had a limited number of spots and we weren’t decisive enough,” Schwartz said. “We aren’t any more deserving than any other team to go.”

More information to follow with regard to the team’s participation.
