Junior Max Segal joined the Jewish Student Association his freshman year and now continues to advocate for the group as President.

“I first joined my freshman year because I wanted to learn more about my culture and be with people who could relate to me and my religion,” Segal said.

According to Segal, more students are coming to meetings, even if they aren’t Jewish or part of any certain religion. Segal said Jewish Student Union is for everyone.

“Anybody can come to these meetings to learn more about Judaism. It’s a very comfortable environment and the Rabbi is extremely welcoming,” Segal said. “Anyone is welcome at anytime and I hope people can understand that you don’t have to be Jewish to want to learn more about it.”

Adviser Tzvi Kupfer said he loves to bring positive messages to students about Judaism.

“Talking to students always makes my day better; knowing I can come talk to bright kids about Judaism and other issues pertaining to that topic,” Kupfer said.

Segal said he tries to get more students aware of the group as part of his role in the club.

“I find the club so important because it helps me get other teens involved in Judaism who otherwise wouldn’t be. It’s fun to learn new things every day,” Segal said. “If someone wanted to come to one of the meetings, I’m sure they would walk away from it knowing a few impacting things about the Jewish culture.”

The next meeting takes place 3 p.m. Oct. 22 in room B134.
