As sophomore DECA club member Grace Farley anticipates Christmas, she said it felt good to get a gift for someone who may not receive a gift during the holiday season.

According to DECA adviser Sophie Ross, the club sponsored an event for families in need of holiday gifts Dec. 20.

Farley said she believes every child deserves a gift during the holiday season.

“Some kids are just asking for a babydoll that they can snuggle with, pretend to take care of, just bring them everywhere,” Farley said. “I’m sure everyone had one when they were a kid.”

According to Ross, the club sponsored this event for children who attend The Family Partnership to provide a gift for all sixty preschoolers.

“The Family Partnership is a preschool that is free for families in need. Every year at this time, the last day before we go on break, we (take the kids to the preschool), about sixty kids, sponsored with one to three gifts of their wishlist and a hat and mittens set,” Ross said.

Ross said she loves the event because it is a joyful time for the preschoolers and DECA.

“What’s really cool about this is this might be the only gift that they’re getting during the holiday season. The (DECA) students help them open up their presents and they get to play with their toys and interact with them over there,” Ross said. “They love it when high school students go over there.”

Farley said she believes it is important to give to those who are in need.

“It’s really important to help people who don’t have as much as you because if there’s something that you can do about it you should at least try,” Farley said. “You’re buying them things that’s going to keep them warm, and you’re helping support the preschool that they go to so they can go and they can learn.”
