According to Quill and Scroll senior president Caroline Green, the Toys for Tots community drive is coming to the St. Louis Park community with the intention of bringing joy to families.

According to senior Quill and Scroll project manager Atticus Raasch, Toys for Tots is an organization officer Bill Mathews enjoyed taking part in during the holiday season.

“What he would actually do is he’d deliver the toys by hand to a lot of the kids and families around the community. I think our goal is to be able to do that as well, just to kind of honor him, so that’s one of the important parts,” Raasch said.

Raasch said he strives to bring happiness to all of the families in the community that receive toys.

“The holidays are supposed to (be) a really happy time, but sometimes for a lot of families it can be stressful and tough, so I think just being able to help and give back to the communities is really important,” Raasch said.

According to Green, the journalism honors society is contributing to Toys for Tots as their first semester community project.

“This is a nice way to help other kids who are in need, so we can make a difference,” Green said.

Raasch said honors society members have been working closely with the Student Council, making signs that are posted on the walls of the school hallways.

“I mean they’ve worked really hard. On the loudspeaker, (Student Council president) Sophie Yarosh and I made an announcement. It’s a good time. It’s nice to have that feeling of helping the community

. It’s been a good time and we still have lots of work to do,” Raasch said.

Quill and Scroll adviser Lori Keekley said she looks forward to the service-project aspect of this new club.

“We’re very excited to do this and be a part of this. We have more than sixty dollars together so far and I know we’ll get more,” Keekley said.

Raasch said he encourages students to contribute new, packaged toys for this cause.

“You can bring (toys) into Keekley’s room, which is C363, or (Sarah) Lindenberg’s room, which is C371 and also the student office,” Raasch said.

According to Green, the Toys for Tots drive this semester will continue until Dec. 11.
