Additional cancelled day requires make up

With another day cancelled due to severe weather conditions, Superintendent Rob Metz plans to consider as many options as possible to make up the day.

“We really did not want to cancel school yet again,” Metz said. “So much has already been missed, but there was not much that could be done.”

Metz said the decision will be made Mar. 10 at the school board meeting. He said he hopes to talk to parents, teachers, students and the board before then to get their insight into the situation.

Junior Anline Lezama said she used the snow day to relax, but the chance of adding days in June did not appeal to her.

I rather have them take our late starts on Tuesdays and Thursdays then have to come back in June,” Lezama said. “I think even if they do add days in June, students will have their parents excuse them.”

With a snow depth of 22.80 inches on Friday accompanied by dangerous road conditions, Metz initially sent out calls telling students and parents there would be a two hour delay. Shortly after that however, the decision to cancel the entire day was made as schools across the region closed as well.

Sophomore Sam Miller said he used his day off to shovel away the snow, and he would rather have not had the day off.

“I would have rather had school on those snow days so that I could enjoy more days in summer,” Mille said. “We should take any days that we would normally have off and have school on them.”

“After going on the roads and seeing how bad they were, I was glad I decided to cancel,” Metz said.
