Assistant principal Scott Meyers said this year’s graduation ceremony is planned to happen as usual at 7:30 p.m, June 10 at the football field.

The alumni speaker this year is an artist named Malcolm Liepke. According to his biography on rogallery.com, he attended the Art Center College in Los Angeles. His work appeared in Time and Newsweek magazines as well as the National Academy of Design, Allied Artists and The National Arts Club.

In case of inclement weather the administration will move the ceremony indoors to the main gym where spectators can also view a televised version of the graduation in the auditorium.

Senior Sam Casey said it’s valuable to have an alumni speaker at Graduation because it is inspirational to the graduates.

“It’s a good experience for the high school to hear from someone who went to the same school and was successful,” Casey said.

Meyers said having a graduation ceremony is important because it not only celebrates an important time for the seniors, but also brings together the community.

“It gives the seniors a chance to reflect on how far they’ve come and the accomplishments they’ve had,” Meyers said. “But it also is a time for the community to celebrate the culmination of another group of young people ready to move to on into the world.”
