The St. Louis Park police department arrested Jarrell Smith, an instructional assistant at St. Louis Park Middle School, Nov. 10 for alleged criminal sexual conduct, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Jail Roster.

The district released an automated call Nov. 10 to all middle school parents and staff regarding the alleged incident involving Smith and a student.

In the automated call, Sara Thompson, director of communications for St. Louis Park Public Schools, said school officials became aware of the incident Nov. 9. Thompson said Smith is no longer an employee of St. Louis Park Public Schools.

“The safety of all St. Louis Park public school students is of utmost importance to the district and we continue to be vigilant in protecting our students, staff and those visiting our buildings,” Thompson said in the automated call.

The Echo is currently investigating this issue, and an updated story will be released as soon as additional information is disclosed.
