Superintendent Rob Metz will resign from his job as Superintendent following the school year, according to a Jan. 3 press release from district communications director Sara Thompson.

St. Louis Park Public Schools Superintendent Rob Metz has formally submitted his resignation, effective June 30, 2017,” the release stated.

After 19 years working in the St. Louis Park school district, Metz plans to begin working as deputy director of the Building Assets Reducing Risks (BARR) team.

“In this role, he will work with the BARR Team to expand the work nationwide,” the press release stated.

In the statement, Metz said he is looking forward to his new role.

“I am highly motivated to help reform and improve public school systems across the country,” Metz said.

The School Board plans to meet to discuss the search for Metz’s successor, according to the release.

“The School Board will meet in a special session before the January 9, 2017, school board meeting to determine next steps for a superintendent search,” the release stated.

The School Board will take next steps at its Jan. 9 meeting, according to the release.

“The School Board is scheduled to take action on Superintendent Metz’s resignation at the Monday, January 9, School Board Meeting,” the release stated.

In the statement, Metz said he has enjoyed his time working in the district.

“I cannot put into words how much I have enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to work in St. Louis Park Public Schools for the past 19 years,” Metz said. “I would like to personally thank the school board, administration, teachers and staff, for supporting me and helping me grow as an educator during this time.”
