Court of Appeals affirms ruling against the Echo

Video footage characterized as educational data

The Court of Appeals affirmed the District Court’s ruling against the Echo Aug. 13, after a hearing on May 23.

The District Court ruled against Echo Oct. 7, 2017, classifying the video footage as nonpublic educational data. Thus, the district’s denial to the request for video footage of an alleged hijab incident Nov. 14, 2016 was acceptable. The Court of Appeals further stated this protection makes the data inaccessible, regardless of its classification under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

The lawsuit was filed by Echo against the St. Louis Park school district Jan. 18.
