Freshman Kayla Furuli loves the country and all it has to offer, from country music to trap shooting and anything in between.

Kayla was born in Wisconsin but moved to Minnesota at the age of three. She has two siblings, one older brother and one younger sister. She has grown up playing soccer for a majority of her life, but wanted to try out something new. This spring she will be trying out for the St. Louis Park High School trap team, which has been a relatively new sport.

She has been practicing by hunting with family and aiming and shooting at targets, and said she looks forward to the season.

“I look forward to shooting and I hope to make friends with the upperclassmen. This is my first year so I don’t know what to expect or what it is like yet.”

Before the fun begins, Furuli has to take other classes and precautions so that she can be best prepared for the season.

“I have to take hunter’s safety class first where they teach you about the gun and how to safely use it.”

Along those lines, Furuli is a big fan of country music.

“I love country music, Kenny Chesney is my favorite artist, I went to his concert as well as Sugarland and Pat Green.”

Furuli holds a love for Wisconsin, she plans to move there after she graduates high school to her hometown in Wapaca, Wisconsin.

“The country is where I feel I belong and can be free and I like that there are less people than here.”

Furuli has grown up watching her brother play baseball and win a state championship, her older brother Kenny played for a traveling baseball team in 2012. She also has a younger sister, Kylie who has started to play tennis.

“I am proud of my siblings for all they have accomplished,” Furuli said.
