As student band Dopeamine prepares for their upcoming show, the group has been practicing harder than ever according to senior band member Ben Romain.

“I think we will probably prepare for (this gig) more than usual just because it’s a bigger thing,” Romain said. “It’s an actual bar and not just The Depot, so (we are preparing) harder for it.”

According to Romain, the band will be playing at the Pourhouse in Minneapolis, a bigger venue than they usually perform at.

Junior lead guitarist Martin Scalici said he thinks the band will benefit from the location change.

“(The new venue) gives us an incentive to practice more. The Pourhouse seems more legit (than the Depot),” Scalici said. “I think our performance is going to be better because we’re going to be focused on sounding better.”

Junior Lindsey Epstien said they are excited to see their friends perform in a new place.

“(I’m excited about) seeing my friends on stage,” Epstien said. “I like that I get to see my friends doing things that they love to do.”

Scalici said although finding time to practice can be difficult, the band has a schedule and  routine to help them focus and perfect their music.

“About four weeks before the gig we practice (twice) a week,” Scalici said. “Sometimes we get a little mad at each other because someone didn’t learn the song or doesn’t know a part, but other than that when we practice (we) just have a good time.”

Romain said the band plans to keep their set short and simple, but hopefully perform better than ever before.

“We’re going to mostly do the same setlist, just a bit (shorter) because it’s (less) time than at the Depot,” Romain said. “We’re practicing as much as we can for it.”

Rocktober starts at 4 p.m, with Dopeamine’s set starting at 7:20 p.m. The performance will be Oct. 22 at The Pourhouse located in Minneapolis. Tickets are $10 and are available for purchase on The Pourhouse’s website, according to Romain.
