According to senior Mary Gleason the game didn’t turn out the way the team wanted but started it strong.

“I don’t think it went as we planned, but we knew the team was going to be good so we had to come out hard. I think the first period we did come out really hard and then we kind of settled after that,” Gleason said. “One thing that kind of happens throughout our games is once a couple of goals go in, we kind of quit, not really quit, but get our heads down.”

Coach Ryan St. Martin said the team struggled to get past the difficulties that were present in the game.

“We were not able to overcome adversity as a team,” St. Martin said.

Hopkins/Park lost 0-8 to Eden Prairie bringing its overall record to 5-14.

According to sophomore Sarah McCallon, the first and last period went well but the team struggled in the second.

“In general I think we played a very good first period and a really good third period we fell apart in the second period which was kind of unfortunate,” McCallon said.

St. Martin said so far this season, the team has been growing together.

“We are coming together and doing some important things teamwise. Ultimately we need to continue to grow together, be good teammates and focus on the process of becoming the best versions of ourselves,” St. Martin said.

Gleason said to prepare for the next game, the team will practice hard and stay positive during the game.

“Our next game is also against a really tough team, which is Minnetonka, so we’re gonna have to practice really hard and keep the positivity up on the bench during the games because we know these teams are gonna be really tough,” Gleason said. “Even though we have a really young team.”

According to gopark.org Hopkins/Park will play against Minnetonka at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at Pagel Ice Arena.
