Register for winter sports

Although some sports like basketball and hockey have cuts, anyone can register for a winter sport at the high school as long as they have a physical and have all their forms, according to athletic director Andy Ewald.

The winter sports offered at the high school are boys’ and girls’ Nordic skiing, boys’ and girls’ hockey, boys’ and girls’ basketball, girls’ gymnastics and boys’ swimming.

Ewald said he believes many students decide to do a sport at the school to extend their association with the school outside of classroom.

“I think it just gives them a connection to our school so that their experience and ownership of their educational experience isn’t just the seven to eight hours they’re here for school,” Ewald said.

Freshman Joe Holloway said he decided to participate in swimming this year to acknowledge pride with Park and believes others should join sports.

“It feels like you’re doing something and showing pride,” Holloway said. “I think students should because it’s a good experience, helps you experience different things and helps you have an open mind about things.”

According to Ewald, students can either print off the forms from gopark.org and turn them in to the athletic office or they can stop in and grab the forms directly from the athletic office. Each sport has a different start date, but forms are due before the first day of each sport.
