According to athletic director Andy Ewald, the athletic department has an event for students, parents and coaches in the works.

“It’s going to be some sort of spring event that we’re gearing towards for parents, athletes and coaches,” Ewald said. “We’ve talked it for a couple months and we’re starting to formulate it more now and by the end of January at the latest we’re gonna have something set in stone.”

Ewald said the event will feature various speakers and workshops for athletes.

“(We will) offer education to our coaches, parents and athletes as well as free physicals for our athletes,” Ewald said “It will feature physicals, we will have somebody from the University of Minnesota come in from their compliance department and talk about NCAA eligibility for kids that have aspirations of playing sports after high school. We’re looking at maybe a mental health component and nutritional component,”

Sophomore April Callahan said she thinks the idea of an event to support athletes is a great idea.

“I think that it would definitely bring athletes together during the off season,” Callahan said. “It’s nice to see your teammates out of practice”

According to Ewald, the event is planned for late May.

“It’ll be the 26 of May, probably some time early evening,” Ewald said. “It’s going to be probably in the main gym and maybe a couple other classrooms depending on size.”
