As senior captain Makayla Jones-Klausing anticipates the upcoming Hopkins Hustle tournament, she said she hopes the team performs well because they have been successful so far this season.

“I’m hoping we do really well. We’ve been having a strong season, and I’m really hoping to go far in the tournament,” Jones-Klausing said.

According to girls’ ultimate head coach Seija Stratton, the team will compete in the Hopkins Hustle tournament, along with 18 girls teams, 10 middle school teams and about 30 boys’ teams May 13 and 14.

“(Hopkins Hustle) is going to be a big tournament this year. (It’s held) in Blaine at the National Sports Center,” Stratton said.

Jones-Klausing said the team often feels excited for tournaments because of the other players they can meet up with at the tournament.

“We usually get a lot more excited for tournaments because the tournaments we go to are a lot of fun and we know a lot of people from other teams, so it’s like kind of a mini-reunion,” Jones-Klausing said. “They’re also a lot more exciting just because we’re playing a lot more games and (the team is) competing for first place.”

Stratton said she hopes to see the team work together to accomplish different aspects of the game on the field, such as more touches with the disc.

“I’d like to see us play well together, Stratton said. “I’d like to see better utilization of the players on the field.”

Jones- Klausing said tournaments are tiring because of the multiple games the team will.

“They’re more exhausting (than games), though. We’re always a lot more tired by the end,” Jones-Klausing said.

According to the Hopkins Hustle schedule, the team will play first  at 8:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. May 13 at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
