After a win against Chaska Sept. 7, the girls’ swim team lost to Chanhassen with a score of 29-65.

Senior captain Izzy Leviton said even though the team lost, she walked away feeling satisfied.

“Chanhassen is one of the best teams in our conference, like the best team in our conference, but we really went out there and did our best,” Leviton said.

According to head coach Joe Yaeger, the swimmers persevered and gave their best effort throughout the entire meet.

“I thought the girls responded very well from race to race getting them down. They swam a whole meet. Even if they might not’ve liked their first race, they kept swimming hard and fast,” Yaeger said.

Leviton said the team needs to work on improving in the beginning and end of their races to help decrease their times.

“I think we need to work on our starts and then our finishes so there’s no more tap outs,” Leviton said.

Freshman Elie Grassley said she thought she performed well in all of her events.

“Personally, I think I swam well in the 500. I dropped a little bit of time, and then in my relay I think we did well,” Grassley said.

Grassley said although anxious before the meet, she felt comfortable once she entered the water.

“We all kind of stayed together and we were all nervous but we got through it,” Grassley said. “Personally I was also very nervous, so it was difficult to get out there and race but then once I had my first race, I was ready.”

The next meet takes place 12:15 p.m. Sept. 16 at St. Catherine University against Minneapolis Southwest.
